Jean Katherine Kinney

April 25, 1920 — February 12, 2015

ean Katherine Kinney was born in Detroit, Michigan April 25, 1915, the first child of Rolland Stinson and Eleanor Davenport Trott. She lived most of her life in Denver, Colorado and finished her earthly journey November 12, 2015 in Littleton, Colorado in the loving care of her daughter Jeanell Jornod and her granddaughter Cheri Hall. She was married to John Bernard Kinney, loving him and thriving in his charismatic shadow until his death in 1973. Then she emerged as an independent and adventurous woman of many talents and interests. In about 1944 she and Bernard were searching for why they existed, and through the testimony of others found the answer in a personal relationship with Jesus as their Savior. As citizens of His family in heaven they considered themselves aliens on earth and became devoted to caring for those around them, using the talents God had given them. Her family and friends celebrated her life at her 100th birthday party April 25, 2015 and the family considers that event her life memorial. After her heart failed we, son Rolly and daughter Jeanell, gathered a few close friends and family to reflect on some of her many interests and talents prior to interring her temporary house-of-dust next to Bernard’s, her beloved husband of 40 years, at Highland Cemetery in Thornton, Colorado on November 17, 2015.A few reflections on her life: were commitment to her disabled friends, her varied artistry and crafts, her love of gardening and flowers, her focus on health (which probably was a factor in her long life), her efforts with Bernard to share the reconciliation gospel of Jesus with others, and her joy of living daily. She was involved with the beginning of Tryad (To Reconcile You Able Disabled), a volunteer group in Denver devoted to reconciling Able and Disabled to each other and to God through faith in Jesus, by providing a barrier-free retreat and other activities. She setup a craft booth at their annual retreat for many years and encouraged friends to support Tryad with donations. (Send to Tryad, c/o Dan Foster, 3095 S Winona Ct, Denver CO 80236).
