Life started for Stan on August 2, 1931, as the 3rd oldest child and first son of Wade and Hazel Douglas, south of Yuma Colorado. Stan had three sisters LaVaughn, Charlene, and Dorothy. He also had three brothers, Elmer, Allen, and Steve. In the summer of 1952, Stan joined the army. In January 1953, he was shipped to Germany where he taught soldiers how to run heavy equipment, an experience that aided him in his business career later in life.He and Marilyn were married in 1954. Marilyn and Stan were blessed with four children: Kim, Larry, Susan and Mike. Over the years the Douglas family has expanded to include seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.In 1986 a friend called and said “We are coming by to take you square dancing,” and from that beginning many enjoyable years of dancing and travelling followed. They were privileged to meet a lot of good people and made many friends. Square dancing took them to California, Oregon, Nevada, Wyoming, Missouri, Utah, and even Germany. Nearly sixty-two years of marriage brought a lot of good memories and challenges. There have been many blessed times. In 1998, he was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer and was told at the time he had 6 months to live. Thanks to the treatment received-and undoubtedly to Stan’s own special brand of stubborn determination—the cancer went into remission until 2016, and those 6 months extended to 18 years! Stan passed away at Collier Hospice Center in Wheat Ridge Co. on Monday May 30, 2016.Stan was a hard-working, good hearted man who provided for his family. He was always willing to help people in need. We will miss his presence in our lives, but he will always live in our hearts.
