Vicki Manton, who loved her family, life-long friends, neighbors, sweet dogs, hatch green chilis, Palisade
peaches and a nice glass of Zinfandel, passed away peacefully from a rapid onset illness on October 22,

Planned Pethood International.
Vicki was born to Leone and Edmund Steckler (aka “The Colonel”). Having been an Army brat, Vicki
experienced many locales and cultures during her formative years—Colorado, Arkansas, the Virgin
Islands, Panama and Utah. She was married to Don Manton in her twenties. The marriage lasted seven
years, and their friendship lasted the rest of their lives.
Vicki’s career during the 70’s and 80’s was in the clothing wholesale business, as a sales rep for
menswear in western regions and a buyer, for companies including JC Penny, May D&F, Joslin’s and
Miller Stockman. Many of you reading this may remember her time and adventures in Balboa Island,
California, or became friends from the close-knit days of the Denver Merchandise Mart.
Those years were an electrifying time in Vicki’s life. She was a social butterfly who loved to throw
parties, attend all the hot spots, and generally have fun in ways that some of her loyal friends will only
allude to in the eyebrow-raising, “If I were to tell you, I’d have to kill you,” sort of way.
In the early 90s, Vicki transitioned into a real estate career, where she thrived on the challenges that
came with every closing. She enjoyed working in real estate until the day she died. As a people-
connector and fierce advocate for her buyers and sellers, finding clients was never a challenge. Her
professionalism and trustworthiness gained her constant referrals and repeat buyers. Children of clients
chose to use Vicki after they grew up.
As the common denominator for multiple groups of friends, Vicki was the Kevin Bacon of her world.
Countless people across multiple age groups became friends through Vicki. She was easy to like thanks
to her wry sense of humor. She would be the first to offer help if someone needed it, or a seat at her
Thanksgiving table. She was loyal, loving, considerate, generous, wise and true. Many of her friends
called her for advice because she always had the right answer.
Travel with friends was one of Vicki’s passions. She favored Puerto Vallarta where she could have been
named an honorary citizen. It was there, or in Colorado’s Mt. Princeton Hot Springs, or Santa Fe, New
Mexico, that she enjoyed floating in the pool with a good book, shopping, eating out, dancing, and
having the perfect margarita.
Vicki is survived by her brother William (Bill) Steckler of Denver, Colorado, her nephew Jerod Dannatt of
Spokane, WA, and his five children, her dog Jojo, many friends and caring neighbors. She was preceded
in death by her parents, her brother James (Jimmy) Steckler and her dogs Ruffy, Keeper and Lucy.
Vicki was a warm-hearted, trustworthy friend who was dedicated to her family. Her quick wit,
enthusiasm, beaming eyes and loving soul will be deeply missed.Vicki
